Indian benchmark indices are expected to start the day on flat note on Friday. Investors will focus on corporate earnings and any news flow regarding the Union Budget for market direction today.

A total of 18 companies, including Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and HCL Technologies, are scheduled to release their December quarter numbers later in the day.

According to analysts, Reliance Industries is likely to see a flat Q3 performance amid weakness in the petrochemicals (petchem) unit’s performance even though retail and telecom segments are likely to gain further.

Similarly, IT bellwether TCS is also expected to put up a muted show in the third quarter. The company witnessed higher furloughs during the quarter than in the corresponding quarter of FY19, especially in the Banking and Financial Services vertical.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmrk index ended at 41932.56 up by 59.83 points or by 0.14 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12355.5 up by 12.2 points or by 0.1 %.

On the global front, upbeat earnings and robust manufacturing data lifted Wall Street to record highs. The S&P 500 rallied through the 3,300-mark for the first time, the Dow Jones rose 0.9 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.06 per cent.

Asian shares inched higher on Friday. In early trade. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.19 per cent. Australian shares were up 0.5 per cent, and Japan's Nikkei added 0.55 per cent. Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – YES Bank Ltd. 126354618.00, Tata Motors Ltd. 28118140.00, State Bank of India 26653623.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd. 15990374.00, GAIL (India) Ltd. 14849195.00,

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 165.75 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 34167.35 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 234370 with a total turnover of Rs. 17499.59 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 626984 with a total turnover of Rs. 43712.90 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 45118726 with a total turnover of Rs. 3115246.05 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 698412 with a total turnover of Rs. 50861.93 Crore.

The FIIs on 16/01/2020 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5657.47 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 648.83 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5594.19 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1505.81 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 63.28 Crore and Rs. -856.98
