Indian equities may start on bearish note on Friday, tracking negative trends in SGX Nifty Index Futures and weak cues from global peers. Overseas, the Asian stocks were trading lower, following weak closing at Wall Street in the overnight trade, amid concerns over trade disputes and the threat of higher US interest rates. Back home, bearish trends in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for October delivery, which were trading at 10,326, down by 56 points or 0.54 per cent, at 10:45 AM, Singapore Time, also indicated a negative start for local bourses. On the corporate front, shares of Reliance Industries will remain in focus as brokerages affirmed a positive stance on the Mukesh Ambani-led company following strong September quarter earnings. On the earnings front, big names like ICICI Securities, UltraTech Cement, SBI Life and BEPL, will release their results today.

Surrendering early gains completely, the benchmark Sensex on Wednesday fell 383 points to end below the 35,000-mark in highly volatile trade, breaking three sessions of gains as investors booked profits amid caution ahead of Reliance Industries' second quarter earnings. Overall sentiment was cautious as investors were on a wait-and-watch mode ahead of financial results from Reliance Industries, to be released later in the day, brokers said. The 30-share benchmark index closed trading at 34779.58 down by 382.9 points or by 1.09 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10453.05 down by 131.7 points or by 1.24 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were YES Bank Ltd. 37767849.00, State Bank of India 21631573.00, Infosys Ltd. 20360697.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 20203287.00, Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd. 19101381.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 147.83 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 33387.37 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 340050 with a total turnover of Rs. 29998.44 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1044829 with a total turnover of Rs. 65264.34 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 19589333 with a total turnover of Rs. 1935379.57 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 842056 with a total turnover of Rs. 59072.31 Crore.

As on October 17, 2018, the FIIs stood as net seller in both equity and debt markets. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 3986.89 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 4629.39 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5069.34 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 6017.21 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1082.45 Crore and Rs. -1387.82.
